Jeffrey Otieno- Time To Unplug?
Jeffrey Otieno dives into the advantages and drawbacks to social media in his project, “21st Century Youth.” His illustrations are as striking as they are polished. They show us that the decision to plug in and obsess over social media is our own. It is our responsibility and only we can correct it.
Otieno explains why the subjects in his illustrations are lacking heads. “Headless people to me symbolize ‘lost minds’.” He further states that, “They are controlled by whatever is above their shoulders; they don’t think straight. They are fiends to it.”
He tells Dekit Magazine that sometimes he is affected by the negative drawbacks of being an artist on social media. “I, at times, fall victim to these negative aspects because at the end of the day your work is an extension of yourself…You still want people to appreciate and love your work.”
